Someday and her sister Later are two sweet talking siblings
who rob us blind, waste our potential and keep us unhealthy, weak, broke and
unhappy.
They tell us that our future selves are stronger, more
disciplined and better able to handle things. They lull us into believing our
actions right now don’t matter. They say that later on we will have more time,
more energy and more strength to tackle the things in our lives that need to be
addressed.
They lie. Tomorrows clock will still have only 24
hours.  Next years calendar will
still hold only 52 weeks. Future us will not have more time.  Next week, next month, next year does
not hold anymore hours to invest in our spouse, our children or grandchildren
than this one does.
Someday and Later promise to make wiser food choices and
wiser exercise, sleep and health decisions.  After this cheeseburger.  After this soda. After this couch lounging season.  You can start walking 30 minutes a day.  Someday.  You can start moving your body more.  Later.
The truth is, future us is NOT going to be stronger, wiser
or healthier in the sweet by and by if we do not work at it in the nasty now
and now.
If we don’t plan for retirement NOW, it isn’t going to get
easier to do it tomorrow.  As
painful as it is to realize, if we don’t die young, we are going to get
old.  Not planning for it isn’t
going to keep it at bay.  Young,
unhealthy, broke and miserable is bad. Old, unhealthy, broke and miserable is
worse.
Go to the ant, thou sluggard;
consider her ways, and be
wise:
which having no guide, overseer or ruler
provideth her meat in the summer
and gathereth her food in the harvest.
Proverbs 6:6-8.

The ant is not fooled by Tomorrow and Later.  We shouldn’t be either.
